The Ramen Stall @ Short Steet

Seems to be having the same cuisine/theme for both my lunch and dinner on Friday recently. 😛 Today’s  dinner craving was for Japanese Grilled Skewers, carried forward the theme of Japanese from my lunch.. 😀

There are plenty of places with great Kushiyaki. Kushiyaki is a generic term for skewered and grilled meat and vegetables but in Singapore, we tend to refer to them as yakitori (which means grilled bird) as grilled chicken is the most commonly available version.  PB and I decided to head to somewhere we are familiar with as we do not want to battle the crowds on a Friday night.

Rows of Sake bottles used to decorate the interior

Part of the interior where the sashimi and kushiyaki are prepared

My order of the Chawamushi, $3.90.

There were small bits of shrimps at the bottom of the chawamushi, pretty different from the conventional ones, and the egg was quite firm.  Am still in seach of the best chawamushi in town and so far, I think Sumire has one of the better ones.

Teppanyaki Giant Hokkaido Scallop, $16.90

Not too sure if we had taken too long to eat this but it was a bit cold and the scallops were a bit mushy.

PB’s Order of sashimi consisting of from (left to right clockwise):
Salmon Belly Sashimi, $12.90, Mekajiki (Swordfish) , $12.90, Tako (Octupus) Sashimi, $9.90

And his favourite Deep Fried Chicken Soft Bone, $6.90

This is of the best chicken soft bone we have had after trying so many places.

Torched Beef Sushi $7.90

This was a little disappointing as the sushi broke into bits when I tried to pick up with my chopsticks and the beef could do with a little more searing.

Kusiyaki Set A, $12.90

Accompanied by rice topped with minced meat, eggs and mushrooms

Close up of the 5 skeweres in the set: Quail Egg, Bacon with Asparagus,Chicken Yakitori

and Shitake Mushroom & Beef Roll with Golden Mushroom.

One each from the 5 skewers 😛

If you are craving for yakitori late at night, this is one place that you can consider as they are open till 6am! Also, Rochor Bean Curd is just a few shops away so you pop over for some desserts after having your skewers spree! 🙂
