My dinner tonight!
My col kept mentioning about some nice gyozas that he ate over the weekend and that got me craving for Gyozas too. Instead of buying them from restaurants, I decided to pop into NTUC to see if they have nice ones that I can prepare from home.
Chance upon some from CP and since there was a promotion where you can buy 2 packs for $9.85 (usual price is $5.90 per packet), I decided to get them. Each pack contains 20 gyozas which is a nice size for a family of 4.
My first attempt in cooking the newly launched Pork and Chicken Gyozas with Chives ended up with all evenly bottomless! HAHAHA.. I did not heat up my pan properly and hence the skin stuck to the bottom of the pan.
Determined to make the gyozas look like those on the packaging, I decided to make another 5 gyozas, and this time, using a non-stick pan.
The 5 Pork and Chicken Gyozas with Chives pan-frying in a tablespoon of hot oil.
Once the base of the dumpling is brown, 1/3 cup of water was poured into the pan and it has to be covered so that the steam from the water can cook the dumplings properly. This takes about 5 minutes.
Uncover and cook till the water has all evaporated and the base is crispy and it is ready to be served.
The silky smooth on top and nicely golden brown bottom. I should have dried out the bottom a little more to have a crispier based.
It tasted good nevertheless! The gyozas were juicy and the flavour just nice.
Will be trying the Chicken ones next. 🙂
