Good deal at Paradise Inn with their newly launched Value Set Meal!
Been a while since I visited Paradise and since I have member credits to be utilised before they expire ( I had over $90 that expired previously!) , decided to lug PB and his friend here for a meal.
The Value Set Meal 优惠套餐 that is being offered is really value for money considering how much prices have increased. You can opt for Value Set A (for 2-3 pax) where you get 3 Dishes + 1 Soup @ $38.80 (U.P $69.80) or Value Set B (for 4-5 pax) with 5 Dishes + 1 Soup @ $80.80 (U.P $127.10)
Each set includes Homemade Barley/ Iced Water Chestnut and Fragrant White Rice. Does that not sound great? 😀
The order chit for the Value set meal.
We chose the below from each of the respective sections which are all essentially favourites that PB and I will order.
Soup: Daily Soup
Egg: Grandma’s Pan-fried Egg with Preserved Turnip
Vegetable: Stewed Eggplant with Minced Pork and Salted Fish in Claypot
Meat/Toufu: Hot Plate Toufu with Preserved Cai Xin and Minced Pork

On top of the usual braised peanuts, there are chestnuts in it too. I prefer the peanuts only dish which used to cost much less 😛
Hot and Ice Chestnut Drink which comes as part of the set.
Fried Fish Skin with Homemade Chilli Sauce 自制酱脆炸鱼皮， $7.80++
This is PB’s MUST-Order whatever he is here. Served with Sambal Chilli, it really gives a kick to the crackling fish skin.

Supreme Seafood Fried Rice 海鲜皇炒饭, $13.90++
Another PB’s must order .

We feel that standard and portion have dropped but it was still good compared to others.
Hot Plate Toufu with Preserved Cai Xin and Minced Pork 菜香铁板豆腐 from the meat/toufu section of our set meal.

Love the bits of minced pork, mushrooms and the cai xin in the sauce and it goes very well with white rice! It was so good that PB finished 1.25 bowls of white rice!
Pork Belly in Fermented Bean Paste 南乳五花肉, $9.80++

Gone too fast with 2 carnivores at the table!
Stewed Eggplant with Minced Pork and Salted Fish in Claypot 渔香茄子煲 (Ala Carte-Small $10.90++) from the vegetable section of our set meal.

One healthy dish that even non-eggplant eaters can give a try. Do not be afraid of the salted fish in the description for we did not really taste it except when you are luckily enough to bite on the few tiny bits in the sauce.
Grandma’s Pan Fried egg with Cai Pou 阿婆菜圃煎蛋 (Ala Carte $7.90++) from the egg section of our set meal.
Not impressed by this as I felt that it was way too thin and I cannot taste the preserved radish. I still prefer the one at New Taiwan Porridge where it is slightly thicker and you can really taste both radish and eggs.
The Daily soup in our set that came the last.
When we placed our orders, we were told it was doubled-boiled bamboo fungus with dried canpoy soup but it appear quite differently when it was served.
Close up of the ingredients in the soup.
A check with another service staff revealed that the soup is similar to that in the menu but does not have the bamboo fungus. Oh well.
Our total bill for 3 came up to $87.45 after adding in 2 ice water ($0.30++ each), wet towels ($0.30++ each), 10% Service charge and 7% GST which I think is pretty value for money. Do note, if you are paradise member, that set meals are not valid for paradise member rebate accumulation nor deduction.
