Deal.com.sg brought us back to one of our much love restaurant at Beach Road – Sofra Turkish Restaurant!
This restaurant brings back much memories for us as it was one of the restaurants that PB had to hold back his ordering impulse as I did not know him very well back then. He loved the grilled meats here and had to hold himself back from ordering practically something from each section since he did not want to scare me off! LOL

Our main course for our Friday night Turkish date. 🙂
The visit to the restaurant almost did not happen as we were told that reservation was full for the night and we can try our luck walking in.Since PB was wiling to give it a go. we arrived at the restaurant and was ushered immediately to a seat. Yeah! The restaurant is big but almost 80% full with big groups of people from all nationalities dining here and we got the last 2nd empty table meant for two.

The cover of the menu already looks so appealing!

The myraid of main course that we can order from!

PB started off with a Soup of the Day – Chicken Soup,$5.20

Close up of the Chicken Soup that was filled with lots of ingredients. There were shredded chicken, spaghetti like noodles and some greens in the lightly spiced tomato-y looking soup. The consistency and texture was perfect and is a great start for a meal.

The Sofra Mocktail, $5.20 that we both loved so much from last time.

Close up of some of the ingredients in the Mocktail.

I was a little disappointed this time round as the jelly that I love was missing from the drink. I kept fishing in the mocktail but all I scooped up was raisins, some dried fruits, some nuts, a cherry and a cube of pineapple. The almonds were also not as crunchy as last time.

Our Chef Plate, $21.90, which is a combination plate consisting of Doner Kebap, Izgara Kofte and a skewer of Shish Kebap arrived soon after.

Close up of the Chef’s Plate with the Doner Kebap in the foreground. The mixed beef and lamb was tender and juicy and so was the chicken!
The skewer of chicken Shish Kebap was a tad dry to me but it was nicely marinated.

Zoom in on the Izgara Kofte which is actually grilled flat meatball. This piece looks like chicken meat to me as the colour was quite pale as compared to the other piece. It was juicy and delicious! The other grilled flat meatball on the plate, probably a mixed of beef and lamb, tasted great too but I was a little too full by then to properly savour it! 😛

I love the touch of a onion flower bowl to hold the salad. So pretty to look at and the salad was so refreshing to eat!

Next came the Hunkar Begendi, $18.50 which is roasted egglant served with homemade sauce and bread. You have a choice of lamb or chicken and we opted for the sauce with lamb and I think it was an excellent decision!

Close up of the soft fluffy sesame bread that came with the main dish.

Close up of the roasted egg plant and lamb sauce! Non eggplant lover like PB also loves this dish! The lamb just “melts” in my mouth, just like the eggplant! Love this dish so much as you can smell the lovely roasted aroma of the eggplant and taste the well-stewed lamb sauce. Eggplant lovers, you have to taste this dish!

How I eat the savoury dish – pack the eggplant and meat in between the sesame bread and right it into your mouth! Yumz!

I was soo full from my meal that dessert was the last thing on my mind. PB, could not resist and insisted on ordering a dessert. So I suggested the Turkish Rice Pudding, $5.90 for dessert

It is a tiny pot of cold rice pudding that is good for sharing between 2 person after sweeping clean the chef’s plate.

The inside of the pudding. You cannot really see the rice in the pudding here but you can definitely taste them. The sweetness of the pudding was just right but since it was made of rice, it does fills you up even more!

Top view of PB’s Coffee, $3.70, which I did not get a chance to taste!

Our bill came up to $67.25 after using the voucher. Adding the $2 that I paid for the voucher, we paid $69.25 for the meal which is very decent given the amount of meat and varieties we had. Service staff were very friendly and prompt and they had no problem reading my hand gestures asking for a knife. LOL. The boss was also helping out at of the restaurant and he even offered us some sweets and some rose water when we exited. Lovely.
For those who wants to enjoy turkish cuisine, this is the place to be. 🙂
