Saboten さぼてん @ 100AM, Tras Street
Trying Saboten at itadakimasu by Parco at 100AM and I had these lovely katsu カツ for lunch!
Saboten is one of the 7 Japanese Restaurants in this cluster on level 3 of 100AM and this is the 3rd restaurant I am trying out after Nadai Fuji Soba Ni-Hachi 名代富士そば and Keisuke Tori King Ramen. Saboten has 3 outlets in Singapore but this is the first time that I am actually stepping into one! @_@
Menu – Kurobuta Pork Shabu Shabu Gozen.
Special menu available from 15 March to 30 September 2017. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Saboten so do look out for their anniversary promotion on their facebook page!
Menu – Sake, Beer, Tsumami and others
Menu – Hotate Fiesta
Sashimi grade scallops from Hokkaido breaded and deep-fried available from 1st – 31st May 2017. A pity to deep fried good quality scallops but this is one way that non-sashimi lovers can enjoy great scallops too! 🙂
Menu – Irodori
Another special menu available from 15 March to 31st May 2017. You can choose from an assortment of meat and sides from this menu which kinda called out to me. 😛
How this works is you can choose one Katsu from Chicken Katsu, Half Loin Katsu or Shrimp Katsu and then a option of Irodori Tenderloin Rolls (Yuzukosho Asparagus Irodori Tenderloin Roll, Cheese Irodori Tenderloin Roll or Sweet Miso Irodori Tenderloin Roll) and two appetisers from a selection of 6 (Cold Tofu, edamame, jako orishi, chilled sauteed carrots, ageshi tofu or ebi karaage). Prices range from $23++ to $28++ for the sets.
Hungry folks will be happy to know that each set comes with imported Japanese Rice, miso soup, chawanmushi, cabbage, pickles and dessert and the refill for rice, miso soup and cabbage is free!

Table Setting
Part of the interior behind my seat before the lunch crowd came in.
Sauces on the table.
Love the bottle containing the goma sauce and the earthen jar containing the tonkatsu sauce!
Close up of the Tonkatsu Sauce.
Cabbage served in a green bowl. Eat as much as you want!
Love how thinly shredded they are and the how sweet, juicy and crunchy it is!
My cabbage with the goma (sesame) sauce.
Sesame for me to grind and make my own sauce.
Chawamushi from the set.
There is a thin layer of broth on top with some seafood bits.
The silky smooth egg. Love it!
Free flow of green tea (it is FOC by the way)
My Friend’s order of the Chicken Katsu Curry Gozen, $18.50++.
The curry looks good. Looks like I need to try it the next round!
My Appetisers from the Half Loin Katsu Set, $25++
Appetiser – Chilled Sauteed Carrots
Appetiser- Jako Orishi (grated radish with crispy white bait).
Very nice dish but the sauce was a tad too salty.
The meats from my Half Loin Katsu Set.

There were yuzu and chilli peppers in the tenderloin roll. It does not taste like our usual peppers as it is midly spicy and it just hits you and is gone.Pretty interesting and it felt like something I tasted in a seven spice shop in Japan. 😛
Another view of the nicely breaded pork.
Making my sauce with the crushed black and white sesame and tonkatsu sauce.
The wooden stick used to crush the sesame seeds.
My sauce.
I felt that it could be a tad lighter.
My Half Loin Katsu Set, $25++ pictured with the japanese rice, miso soup, cabbage and pickles.
Lots of variety to make a happy and filling lunch!
Close up of the tonkatsu!
Absolutely love it! Juicy and crispy. Dip sparingly into the sauce if you want to taste the pork. I did not know that Saboten does such a nice version of katsu. Looks like this is another place that I will be visiting to get my tonkatsu fix. 😛
Dessert – Green tea Ice cream
Close up of the very frozen ice cream.
Haha…we had to wait a while for it to thaw before eating it. 😛
Our total bill came up to $51.20 after 10% service charge and 7% GST. Good price for the quality and variety of food! Will be back! 🙂
