Portico Cafe.Restaurant.Bar @Alexandra Road, revisited

We are back to Portico for a meal and the service staff actually remembered us! 😀

Checking out the cakes – Earl Grey Latte & Soy Cotton Cheesecake

Cakes – Mango, Homemade Carrot cake and Forest Berries Parfait

What I missed during last trip was not available today but there are others that PB will agree and I made sure I ordered mine right when I placed my orders for food! 😛

PB’s Ice Water and the alfresco dining area with the live band in the background.

It took a long time for the food to come as they are very short-handed today and running at almost full house.

Wild Mushroom Soup, $14++, served with Parmesan Puff Pastry Tuile

Close up of the mushroom Soup.

This is a smooth version and we found it a little watery and a tad ex for the price.

Grilled Pork Sausage, $8++, served with honey mustard

Close up of the pork sausage.

The sausage was very juicy and we feel it tasted more like boiled sausage than grilled ones. Not too sure if this is due to them being short-handed in the kitchen and the grilling time was cut short. TCC does a better  sausage in veal version at around the same price.

My Main Course – Pan-seared Pulau Ubin Sea Bass, $28++, served with roasted new potatoes, garden herbed beurre blanc sauce

Close up of the nicely seared fish and potates

Love those tiny bits of pear like fruits in the potatoes that helped to freshen up the dish.

Love how nicely seared the fish is with crispy skin and juicy meat. Thumbs up.

PB decided to try their beef this time round, having been enticed by the blocks of beef on the tables around us!

1655 Black Angus Ribeye 200g, $42++, served with baked potato fan, sour cream, chives, crispy bacon and charred broccoli with gruyere cheese

Charred Broccoli with gruyere cheese. Pretty interesting combination

Potato fan.

Nicely cut up so that it is easy to pick up and eat with the sour cream, chives and bacon

The 200g of beef done medium.

Nice and tender but I find that it lacks the omph that a steak grilled over a good flame will produce.

Dessert time!

Top view of the Mango Cake, $6.90++

It is a Alfonso Mango Mousse Cake with mango bits and topped with passion fruit jelly and fresh blueberries. A very fragrant cake, pretty to look at and nice to eat. 🙂

Earl Grey Latte Cake, $7.90++

Earl Grey Tea Mousse, Vanilla Cream, Tea Jelly and Hazelnut chocolate soil

Top view of the cake.

Lightly fragrant with interesting bits of jelly in the cake. Nice cake for tea 🙂

Our total bill came up to $114.30 as we received only 15% off the bill as compared to 50% off the previous visit with AMEX palate. In order to qualify for the 50% off, you must order 2 mains (excluding those On the Grills). So for those of you looking for value-for-money meals, do look out for those T&C!
