Penang Food Trip

A very “food-ful” trip this time round and no, I did not burst my tummy as I had travel companions who had more elastic stomach than I do! 😛

Writing down my itinerary before I forget/find the time to write. Do check out the posts as I find time to update and link them!

Summary of my 3D2N Penang Food Itinerary is as below:

Day 1:
Depart SIN at 11:25hrs on Budget Airline AirAsia
Arrived PEN: 12:45hrs
Lunch: Char Kway Teow at Lorong Selamat
Tea: YTF at Padang
Dinner: Ah Chui Seafood
Dessert: Gurney Drive SnowFlakes Ice

Arrived in Penang and headed to collect our rental vehicle! 1st stop was Lorong Selamat for the Char Koay Teow (CKT) for lunch! Having missed it on my last trip, I am really glad to see that they were opened for business!
As it was a Friday after the peak lunch hour, we were able to get a seat quite quickly, unlike the previous round where there were people waiting for seats at almost every table! The feeling was just like people hawking for tables in CBD during lunch 😛
Here, we got our first taste of the yummy food in Penang! Not only was there CKT, there were Lor Bak, Hokkien Mee, Assam Laksa, etc. Very happy and satisfying meal! After our meal, we even take-away one large CKT for a friend who arrived at the airport slightly later than us.

After checking into hotel and taking a mini-break, we headed for Yong Tau Foo(YTF) at the Padang. The taste of the soup was reminisce of those we had during our childhood and some of the ingredients which were no longer available in Singapore.

It was mural chasing along the heritage trail after tea to burn away some calories before our dinner.

Dinner was at a Yummilicious Seafood Place called Ah Chui Seafood which had some interesting seafood and very friendly staff!

Day2:
Raise and shine and gather at 8am
Pre-breakfast: Local Food Centre
Breakfast: Durian at Bao Sheng Durian Farm
Lunch: Ong Cheng Huat Seafood
Tea: Chendol, Assam Laksa & Rojak
Dinner: Crab Village Seafood
No Dessert tonight as we were supposed to go for a massage but due to some unforeseen circumstances, it did not happen.

Roaring for more food-venture, we did not mind waking up so early to start our day! Off we go to some really local hawker breakfast for Chee Chong Fun with Hei Gor Sauce, Hokkien Mee, CKT with Duck’s egg. etc. After that, we headed to the Durian farm for our durian breakfast! Tried a variety of local breeds of durians and this is the 1st time I visited at a durian farm and see so many of the thorny fruits hanging on the trees!

We had a 1hr shopping spree at Gurney Plaza before taking a long drive (~45min) to Butterworth to Ong Cheng Huat Seafood for lunch. The food was definitely worth the drive and almost everyone was knocked out after the shiok meal on the way back.

We went to grab some local produce for souvenir at Hock Lock Siew and then headed to the famous chendol for tea.

Did some shopping in the chinatown area before heading for more seafood at Crab Village Seafood.

Day3:
Gather at 9.30am for durian breakfast but due to some change in events, we went for breakfast instead!
Breakfast: Finger licking good Local Delights
Brunch: Durian at Bao Sheng Durian Farm
Lunch: Mum’s Nyonya Cuisine
Tea: Selfie Cafe
Shopping at Paragon then to Depart PEN at 20:40hrs.
Home Sweet Home

Our impromptu breakfast had us eating some cheap and good local delights like Wanton Mee, Hokkien Mee, Lor Bak, etc. After that, we drove up to the farm for our final durian feast before we end our foodie trip. We even managed to tabao some to bring home to savour!

Went back to hotel to pack and checkout before heading to Mum’s Nyonya Cuisine for lunch. Having some time to spare, we did something fun by checking out a Selfie Cafe in Penang! Something I probably would not do back in Singapore. LOL

We had our finally shopping spree at Paragon before heading back to the airport for Home Sweet Home..
