Ala Carte Buffet! You saw it correctly! Been ages since I went for one and this was suggested by my sister for a family celebration as it is really good and there was a promotion going on!
I am getting a little lazy recently and did not want to take pics for the meal today. Partly due to the fact that it is a family meal today and I just wanna sit down and enjoy the ala carte buffet and partly because it is not nice to make the elders wait when the food is placed right in front and then and you swing it away from them towards you just for a pic. 😛
This series of pictures came about becuase I was asked to take them! Yes.. Now I have a job during family meals to document what we eat! LOL..
Let’s start with the Shark’s Fin/Soup. There are 7 types of soup for you to choose from but it is limited to one serving per pax for this section.
This is my Braised Baby Superior Shark’s Fin with Fresh Crab Meat and Crab Roe. Something seems to be missing and it was not until I saw my BIL’s portion that I realised the shark’s fin was missing! Aww….
My sister’s Double-boiled Baby Superior Shark’s Fin with Lobster Claw in Shark’s Bone Cartilage Soup. Look at the milky colour of the soup. Full of collagen but too rich for me. If ordered ala carte, this soup costs more than the price of the ala carte buffet!
Dad tried the Braised Baby Superior Shark’s Fin with shredded abalone, Fish Maw and Sea Cucumber but he was too far for me to snap a pic though the soup looks good too 😛
Next, the appetizers section. We tried almost everything from the appetizers section except for one dish, ie, the fried diced beancurd with salt and pepper. 😛 Do note that the portions shown are all medium although we would have easily gotten a large portion with the size of our group. Very nice of the staff to accommodate the request as we wanted to try a variety of the dishes and not stuff ourselves silly.
Top View of the Chilled Fresh Scallop with Fruit and Plum Sauce
Another view of the dish. Very refreshing but I feel that the scallops could have been cut into larger pieces to give the bite
Fried Carrot Cake with XO Sauce. Nice! Must order!
Deep fried Egg Plant with Pork Floss – For peeps would do not like eggplant, do not worry as this appetiser disappears in your mouth and leaves no taste of eggplant.
Fried Salmon Fish Skin with Salt and Pepper. I always find the person who invented this dish a genius. He/She really reduces wastage, makes money for the company and makes people eat something that would otherwise be discard.
Chilled Drunken Chicken. So pretty looking right? Would have tasted better with a little more wine taste.
Roasted Crispy Pork. Everyone approves! HAHA.. nice crackling and the meat tasted just nice!
Crispy Mocked Goose with Salad. Everyone was asking where is the salad?! HAHAHA.. it is in the salad sauce aka mayonnaise.. This is basic deep fried beancurd skin that you can always get with vegetarian stall with your vegetarian bee hoon.
Moving on to the seafood section, we had 5 out of the 8 items there.
Deep-fried Soon Hock Fish with garlic and Superior Soya Sauce. Yummy dish that young and old would like. A pity the fish was a little on the small side.
Live Prawn in “Indonesia” Style
Another view of the dish. The prawns were fresh and meaty but we could not make out what the “Indonesian style” was.
Deep-fried Prawns with wasabi Salad Cream. This is like the staple of many Chinese restaurants now. Not too bad but I feel they can reduce the flour coating on the prawns
Fried Fillet of Dory Fish with Oat Cereals – A very easy to eat dish. Juicy fish and savoury cereals. I wanted more but was just too full! 😛
Steamed Fillet of Pa Ting Fish with Minced Ginger in Superior Soya Sauce. This is good! No fishy smell at all and steamed perfectly! Fish part served varies.
Close up of the meaty Pa Ting Fish and the minced ginger. Thumbs up!
Next up, the Meat section. There were 10 dishes but we only tried 5.
Sauteed Strip of Beef with Marmite Sauce – Mum found it a little salty
Sauteed Vension with Spring Onion and Black Pepper Sauce – Tender and nice. Tasted better than the beef!
Baked Spare Ribs with Salted Egg Yolk – I was too full by the time we ordered this dish!
Sauteed Kurobuta Pork Cube with Sliced Garlic that took forever to come. This was the first dish we ordered but only came at the end of the meal! Meaty juicy but a little too salty. We found that towards the end of the meal, all the seasoning seems to taste the same.
Pan-fried Chicken Steak with Lemon Sauce – Chicken lovers will like this
We only had 2 dishes from the Seasonal Vegetables/Beancurd section but they were all very good.
Poached Local Spinach with three kinds of Egg – the spinach was very young and nice. Great with a bowl of rice!
Braised Baby Cabbage with Golden Mushroom and Fresh Gluten Puff in Minced Meat Sauce – This was yummy too! Fibers to make the meal less sinful! LOL
We did not have too much carbs so we only had the Stewed Ee-fu Noodle with Baby Abalone and Minced Meat Sauce from the Noodle/Rice section. It is increasingly difficult to find nice ee-fu noodles nowadays as most of them uses the yi-mian to make this dish.
My sister was so tickled by the size of the abalone and put her finger there to show how tiny it is!
And finally, the desserts section. We had everything from here – Warm Black Glutinous Rice, Chilled Fresh Mango Sago with Pomelo, Chilled Jelly Royal With Julienne of Coconut and Chilled Longan with Sea Coconut. Dad was so funny and commented that there was only one longan in his bowl of Chilled Longan with Sea Coconut! I had the mango sago which was a little tart and the pulau hitam which was a little too watery but not too bad to round off my meal.
Although some of the food took a while to come, the overall dining experience was pleasant as the staff were very polite and attentive despite a fully packed restaurant with children running and orders flying all over the place. What makes the meal sweeter is that there is currently a promotion on-going where the 4th pax dines free.
