Keng Eng Kee (KEK) Seafood @ Bukit Merah Lane 1
Long heard about the good food at Keng Eng Kee (KEK) Seafood but have not tried it till today! Had actually shortlisted this zichar place for a colleague’s bday celebration as he wanted zichar but our Boss had already booked this place for our CNY HUAT HUAT lunch so had to wait to try the food!
The air-conditioned area of KEK Alexandra with pretty limited tables and I think you really have to book way in advance (especially during CNY) to get a table in there!
The main zichar area and the happening place where all the food are prepared.
The Well-browsed old school menu
The CNY Menu for 5-6 pax at $258 nett with 8 items inclusive of the Fortune Yusheng!
2 options for CNY Menu for 8-10 pax for $428 or $528 nett with 9 items (inclusive of Yusheng).
We had the $428 CNY set which consisted of Fortune YuSheng, Sharkfin with Crab Meat, Deep Fried Soon Hock with Light Soya Sauce, Roasted Chicken with Pipa Sauce, Abalone and Chinese Mushrooms with Vegetables, Marmite Pork Ribs, Boiled “live” prawns, Lotus Leaf Rice and Dessert which was way too much food for us!
Some of the home-made specialty which I was looking forward to try but it was unfortunately not included in the CNY menu. 🙁 Need to wait for the round.

Drinks like Water Chestnuts, Barley and Lime Juice are ordered and paid separately.
The First dish of the meal – Fortune YuSheng

The lucky item – Abalone.
All raw fishes have been replaced at the stalls this year due to the recent bacteria outbreak due to poor raw fish handling.
The Yusheng ready to toss after all the ingredients are added with special blessings.
Toss it high, toss it well, tossing for good luck! HUAT AH!
The wrongly delivered item. 😛 Non of us touch it as the portion looks wrong.
Next came Deep Fried Soon Hock with Light Soya Sauce.

The soon hock was a tad small but it was fried to perfection. Thumbs up to the lovely dish. Love the fried ginger on top too.
Sharkfin with Crab Meat
Been a long time since I had sharkfin soup. Generous serving of crab meat in the piping hot but a little starchy soup.
Lotus Leaf Rice
We waited for 20min after having the soup before the lotus leaf rice appeared.

We were not expecting this dish till the towards the end of the meal and after eating this rice, we were pretty full.
Roasted Chicken with Pipa Sauce
Dishes started piling up on our table as they came fast and furious after they realised we had nothing to eat for a while 😛
Boiled “live” prawns
Close up of the prawns.
Not too sure if this is “glass prawns”?
Abalone and Chinese Mushrooms with Vegetables
Close up of the spinach, abalone and mushrooms.
Not a fan of abalone so I did not try it but love the softness and fragrance of the chinese mushrooms.
Marmite Pork Ribs

When this meat came, we were way too full but it was so good that we managed to finish almost everything! A must order when you are here!
Rounding off the meal with a traditional Dessert of Almond Jelly with Canned Longans.
We were sooooo soooo soooo FULL at the end of the meal. A great meal if not for the jumbled up order of the dishes and the pacing of the meal. Will be back to try the home made specialty next time!
Do note that parking in this area is pretty limited and you may have to park at the extended carpark area and walk back unless you go early or is really lucky. 🙂
