Cestino Bakery and Bistro @ Johor Bahru
“Every Single Day
Is like a Blank Page of our Life.
Every Person we meet,
Every event we participate in
is a lively Essay”
I am not sure who wrote this but I found it in one of the pages in Cestino’s menu and I kind of like it. How lively the essay will be depends on how you create it so start filling that blank paper with colours! 🙂
Been a while since I cross to this side of JB as we were too busy with work and the jams at the customs totally put me off. As I had requested to do some shopping at Tebrau (need to chill before I go crazy! LOL) , I decided that we might as well look for some nice place to chill too! Decided on checking out Cestino which I chanced upon in Johor Kaki’s Blog.
Cestino is pretty easy to locate as it is just behind Jusco Tebrau. There are free parking outside the restaurant and a lot of food places along that stretch. We had wanted to check them out previously but just did not find the time to do it. LOL. Since there was a recommendation and the cute latte art caught my eye, we settled for it!
View of the interior near the entrance from where I was seated.
Cover of the Menu. A very young establishment since they were setup only in 2012.
This was the quote that caught my eye. Seems like a direct Chinese translation isn’t it? 😛
Other than the main menu, there are lunch sets available too. You get a soup or salad, a main, dessert of the day and a drink. For drinks, you can choose from a cappucino, americano or cafe latte, english breakfast, earl grey, peach, blackcurrant or green tea, or ice peach or lemon tea. Spoilt for choice isn’t it? Prices for the set lunches range from RM19.90 to RM27.90. Pretty value for money!
Our Cappuccino and Cafe Latte with simple latte art on it. I was expecting something more artistic/cute since they were not really busy when we arrived and could have taken the chance to practise 😛 Nevertheless, appearance aside, I am happy with the taste and smoothness of my cappuccino.
Garden Green Salad that came with Set Lunch D. As I am not a big olive fan, this salad did not work for me as I tasted too much olives in it.
The Cream of Mushroom Soup that came with Set Lunch B.
My Spaghetti with Smoked Duck. A generous portion of spaghetti which I could not finish. Maybe I am saving space for desserts?! hahaha..
Close up of the smoke duck and the cream sauce.
Zoom in on the smoked duck. I always feel that smoked duck tasted like ham.
Fish and Chips from Set B
Nice golden batter with fries slighter thicker than what we normally get.
I pinched a little to try and found it juicy and meaty.
Like the homemade tartare sauce that came with it.
From where I was sitting, I am literally eating with Marilyn Monroe!
A mouthful of cream coated spaghetti for you Marilyn? LOL
Decided to check out their dessert area as I am not very keen on the dessert of the day – cupcakes.
Mini Cupcakes that came with the set lunch. Without the cream, the cupcakes were a tad dry.
There is a promotion for their macaron where you buy 5 and get one free.
Some of their macarons for sale. Each macaron cost RM3.20 and I ordered only their special – Salted Caramel Macaron to try as I had my eyes on something else!
Our only macaroon, Salted Caramel Macaron, RM3.20 served in a cute dish.
Look at the lovely “feets” of the macaron.
This macaron was not too sweet and I like the filling of salted caramel.
What I am eyeing? Cestino Signature Tiramisu, RM10.90
Look at how it seems to drip at the side…
A pity our lady fingers tasted a little dry but we still love the lightness of the entire dessert
Another Dessert that we ordered – French Vanilla Crème Brûlée RM10.90. It was served with an interesting roselle poached pear. A very local element I would say and a healthy one too as roselle is known to pack a lot of vitamins and health benefits!

A nice tint of red from the roselle. The pear has been thoughfully sliced for easy consumption.
I like this dessert better than the tiramisu. It is not too sweet and not so heavy that it puts you off eating it. I find it pretty light and fragrant and thin crust of sugar on top just melts in your mouth. Nice!
You can see the authentic vanilla beans in it too. Recommended.
Cestino is big and airy and I like the calming yet arty vibe of the place. A nice place to chill with friends and enjoy some nice coffee and desserts. Did i mention Free WIFI too? 🙂
There are outdoor seating too.
Will be back to try more desserts and coffee. 🙂
