Bernardaud Afternoon Tea @ Chihuly Lounge in Ritz-Carlton Hotel

What better way to start the holidays than with an extravagant 8-course afternoon tea?

Upon entering the lounge  area, you will be serenaded by the melodious music wafting LIVE from the pianist playing at grand piano which immediately makes one feels soo relax.

Table all set for you to enjoy a classy high tea

The Bernardaud Afternoon tea, $48+++ is available from 2.30pm to 5pm and you get a choice of a drink from the list above that is refillable. If you decide that you want to try other drinks, you just have to top up by $10.

Our first course for the afternoon tea was a drink  – Rooibois Earl Grey with Honey, Lemon and Mint. Something sweet and refreshingly to start off the afternoon tea.

2nd course was Crackers (prawn cracker, fish cracker and bejerking nut cracker, one of each per pax) served with XO chilli sauce. This course was polished off by PB in record time and I only got to eat one prawn cracker. 🙁

My option of Tea – Life and Beauty  came soon after. The waitress described it as having the taste of passion fruit but I detected nary a hint of it. It tasted more of white chrysanthemum to me. 😛

PB’s Drink – Latte which he finds a little strong

3rd Course was Turkey with Bacon Ham and Chestnut.  What is Christmas without some turkey? 😛

Side view  of the turkey that was still juicy. I did not like the pastry on the outisde though. It wsa a little soft and cheesy

After a long while, our 4th, 5th and 6th course was served.

4th Course was Cheese and Chocolate Scones served with clotted cream.

My Serving of scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream. The chocolate scone was a little heavy and can fill you up a fair bit

5th Course – Sandwiches consisting of Egg Mayo, Ham, Waygu Beef, Smoked Salmon

Cross section view of the Egg Mayonnaise Sandwich which had a sun-dried tomato nestled in it. Nice!

The Wagyu Beef Sandwich

The very cute Ham Sandwich with some nuts which I guessed were pistachios?

The 6th Course were the festive desserts – Cinnamon Tart, Salted Caramel Macaroons, Chestnut Cheesecake, Eclaire! Looks too pretty to be eaten right?

Eclaire and Chestnut Cheescake. First time I had Chestnut Cheescake. Pretty interesting but I preferred something more refreshing or just the original one.

Cinnamon Tart and  Salted Caramel Macaroon.

Side view of the Cinnamon Tart. Very well made but for someone who does take cinnamon, the spice in this tart was too strong for me.

After eating the cinnamon tart, I could not really taste this macaroon 🙁

The 7th Course was Fruit Compote with Cream. You can see the black specks from the  vanilla beans in the creams. Smells so good.

Digging out the fruit that is covered by the cream.

Our 8th Course was Raspberry Sorbet served in a beautiful cone.

Top view of the sorbet that has a wedge of poached pear on top.

As you dig right to the end, there are more surprises at the bottom. You get  bits of soft and well poached pear that melts like jelly in your mouth.

And that is not all! You get to round off the afternoon tea with your selection of chocolates/biscuits from the pushcart.

Close up view of the assortment of chocolates, biscuits and festive cookies/bread.

Our greedy plate from the cart! As we did not know the exact flavour of the chocolate (was only told they were dark chocolates), we randomly picked and wished we had taken more of the mint ones (those with the golden leaves above). They were of the perfect sweetness and you get a thick layer of mint in it.

The Stollen with Lotus Paste that we took to try. It was hard and hence the reason I chopped into so many tiny pieces. If we had not ate so much, I would have finished it. The more you chew it, the nicer it is as the fruits and nuts flavours are released. Perfect with a warm cup of tea. 🙂

A very pampered way to start my holiday! Happy Holidays Everyone!
