My Ayam Penyet, $5.50 lunch today!
Been a super busy and low manning week and I suggested to head to this coffeeshop for lunch since we have already headed out, the group was small, we should try out something new and we are tired of the usual food places!
Headed to La Kopi Coffee Shop at Hoe Chiang Road to try out the Ayam Penyet which I had made a mental note to try. This is the stall in the very narrow coffee shop. There were no cooked food displayed so all food are freshly prepared. The bamboo decoration and the word warung reminds me of Bali though we did not eat Ayam Penyet while we were there!
While waiting for my food to be prepared , I looked at the menu at the stall and saw a tiny famous word under the smashed chicken! I have made the right choice! 😛
This is the tiny kitchen where our food was prepared and I saw Auntie sliding some chicken drumsticks into the wok of hot oil after we placed our orders.

I was trying to make out what was used to marinate the drumstick as the flavours had infused into the meat so it tasted good without the chilli too!

So sedap! The chilli was really spicy but addictive. The crumbs were a little salty but adds so much texture and fun into the meal. We wiped everything off the plate. Thank godness for the blanched kangkong which helped to balance the meal and cut the fieriness a little 😛
The rice was served pretty bali style too in a triangular shape. The tip was taken off by me and sorry that I couldn’t really capture its shape as I was too egaer to tuck in! 😛
If you wanna try this, do go early as the seats at this coffeeshop are quite limited. If you are in groups bigger than 4, it may be difficult to get tables where you can seat together unless you want to seat in the coffeeshop right infront of the stalls which may put you at a risk of smelling like what is prepared. 😛 I would much prefer to sit outside the coffee shop, beside the road, though the usual CBD crowd waiting for tables looms once the lunch peak is here.
