Back for a dim sum fix across the causeway for one of my favourite – Custard Bun!
Wan Li Restaurant is located at Level 1 of Renaissance Hotel, Johor Bahru, which is about 20min drive after passing the Woodlands Checkpoint.
There is even a dim sum picture list to show you how the dim sum looks like. Great for people who are not familiar with Chinese food.
We were deciding between the ala carte dim sum and the all-you-can-eat dim sum menu (as the price has increased by a bit) and decided on the latter as PB was hungry and only 4 items were excluded from the buffet.
All you can eat Dim Sum Menu @ RM54++ per person
All you can eat Dim sum Menu – Steamed Dim Sum, Vegetable, Baked and Fried Items, Rice, Noodles and Porridge
The Dim Sum Menu
Dim Sum Menu. Chef’s recommendation are marked with a Star.
There is a 4 Course Business Set Lunch available at RM50 Nett too.
The Menu looks pretty good and this is a classy place with sufficient space between the tables (for privacy) for business lunches.
Stewed peanuts, RM5.15++ – A tad dry and lacking in taste today. PB had started eating before I took a shot.
Love this chilli that I asked for. Goes very well with my dim sum!
We were served complimentary Carrot and Radish Soup worth RM16++
I find it a tad overpriced if ordered ala carte though the soup tasted like it has been brewed for a while with quality ingredients typical of a good cantonese soup.
Century egg and chicken porridge 皮蛋鸡丝粥
Love the consistency of the congee! So savoury, so smooth and retained its temperature even though I ate so slowly!
Superior “har kao” with water chestnuts 蹄香鲜虾饺
A tad over-steamed today and the skin fell off when we tried to pick it up but the filling was made of the real stuff!
Superior Siew Mai 蟹黄蒸烧卖
Another Fav. Must eat!
Deep-fried Beancurd Skin Rolls with Prawns 鲜虾腐皮卷
Stir-fried Radish Cake with Bean Sprouts in Dry Shrimp Paste 酱炒萝卜糕
Another all time fav. Must eat!
Baked Barbecued Chicken Pastry 蜜汁鸡烧酥
Cross section of the BBQ chicken in the pastry. Another thumbs up!
Steamed Golden Custard Buns 黄金流沙包
Just the look of it and I had to pick one up! 😛
Tearing apart the bun to reveal the pipping salted egg yolk custard filling. Absolutely love this as it is not overly oily and the taste of the salted egg yolk is just right! My “must order” when I am here!
Steamed Beancurd Sheet Rolls with oyster sauce 蚝皇鲜竹卷
Simple, healthy and so yummy to eat.
Pan-fried Shanghai dumplings 上海煎锅贴
PB added this as he was still hungry though I am already so full!
Cross section of the Pan-Fried Shanghai Dumplings
Fairly decent with plenty of chives and meat in the filling.
Baked egg tarts 脆皮酥蛋挞
We waited for than 20 minutes for this to come and it was definitely worth the wait!
The pastry was flaky and crispy and the egg filling so soft, smooth and full…. If we had not been soo full, we would have gone for more! Another must eat when you are here since it is freshly prepared!
Our Order Chit at the end of the meal 😛
PB’s ala carte order of Herbal Jelly since desserts were not included in the all you can eat dim sum.
Total bill came up to RM138 after including appetizer, tea, GST and Service charge. For this price, it is like eating in Singapore except that you get restaurant grade quality, service and ambience. Worth a try if u happen to be in the area. For Malaysians, if you are looking for a special location for a celebration, this could be the one. 🙂
